IP Geolocation Extended is out: every column of IP Geolocation, and four more on each range. It's licensed and downloaded on its own, as CSV and MMDB, rebuilt daily.
Four more columns
| Column | What it holds |
|---|---|
geoname_id | The city's id in the GeoNames gazetteer |
accuracy_radius | The kilometers around the coordinates that hold the true location with 67% confidence |
last_changed | The date the range's country, region, city or coordinates last changed |
dma_code | A US city's TV market as its 3-digit DMA code: 501 is New York, 803 Los Angeles |
Three ranges from the October 9 build:
| Range starts at | City | geoname_id | accuracy_radius | last_changed | dma_code |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2600:141b:e800:30:: | Piscataway, New Jersey | 5102713 | 10 | 2026-10-01 | 501 |
206.172.98.37 | Toronto, Ontario | 6167865 | 10 | 2026-10-07 | |
1.0.0.0 | Sydney, New South Wales | 2147714 | 20000 | 2026-10-07 |
1.0.0.0/24 is anycast, answered from many places at once, so its radius is 20000: no single place holds it.
What's in it
The October 9 build holds 10,579,660 ranges, 9,110,191 IPv4 and 1,469,469 IPv6, covering 3,702,257,919 IPv4 addresses. All but 474 carry a geoname_id, the 474 being the ranges with no city, in Bouvet Island, Heard Island and the retired codes AN and CS. All 5,475,355 US ranges carry a dma_code, and all 210 markets appear.
What the columns are for
accuracy_radius says how far to trust a city. Treat 20000 as no location at all, and hold a distance check to the radius rather than to a point, whether it's a delivery zone or how far a login is from the last one.
last_changed says which ranges moved, so an update can re-check the ones dated after your last import instead of diffing the whole file. The earliest date in the file means on or before that day.
dma_code puts US traffic in the TV markets that media and ad buys are planned in, and geoname_id joins each city to anything else keyed by GeoNames ids, its name in other languages included.
