Domain DNS is out, under Domain: the A, AAAA, MX, NS and CNAME records of every domain registered under the generic TLDs, .se, .nu, .ee, .sk and a few smaller country-code TLDs, of their www names, and of widely used names under other country codes such as .uk, .de and .fr. Each record type is a file of its own, licensed and downloaded on its own, and all five are rebuilt weekly.

A file per record type

FileA rowRows, October 25
Domain DNS Aa name and an IPv4 address it resolves to465,971,752
Domain DNS AAAAa name and an IPv6 address it resolves to126,358,893

Domain DNS CNAMEan alias and the name it points to120,091,929
All five1,618,022,186

Every file has name and last_seen, the most recent day the record was seen, so the five join on name. Rows from each:

An A or AAAA row's ip is always an address: a name under a CNAME lists the addresses its chain ends at, and the chain is in the CNAME file, a row per hop. An MX host of . is a null MX (RFC 7505), the domain saying it takes no mail.

A www name has A and AAAA rows only where its addresses differ from its domain's. On October 25, 205,654,369 www names resolved beside their domain, 173,500,406 of them (84.4%) to exactly the domain's IPv4 addresses, and those have no A rows. Every www CNAME stays in the CNAME file.

Who hosts the sites and the mail

Of the 112,404,379 www names with a CNAME, 47,660,722 point outside their own domain, and the target's owner is the platform the site runs on, or the registrar parking it:

Getting access

Domain DNS ships as CSV, each file rebuilt weekly with its own docs page, linked in the table above. Sign up to evaluate it from its sample. Each file is licensed on its own and never metered: see licensing, or talk to us about what you need. In BigQuery, the five are one product.

Everything these posts report on comes from the databases we license, and you can test them first.

00 · Evaluate

Test the real build first.

An evaluation license puts a full current build in your hands, with no sampling, so you can measure it against your own traffic before anyone talks about terms.

01 · License

Then license what you use.

Standard, for detection and decisions inside your own product and operations.
Redistribution, when the data ships onward inside what you sell, priced by scope rather than by seat.
Annual terms, a named contact, and monthly, quarterly or yearly payment.
