ASN Extended is out: every column of ASN, and fifteen more on each AS number. It's licensed and downloaded on its own, as CSV, rebuilt daily.

Fifteen more columns

ColumnWhat it holds
upstreams, num_upstreamsThe AS numbers it gets transit from, pipe-separated in ascending order, and how many
peers, num_peersThe AS numbers it exchanges its own and its customers' routes with, and how many
downstreams, num_downstreamsThe AS numbers it provides transit to, and how many
customer_cone_asnsIts customer cone: itself, its customers, their customers and so on down
customer_cone_ips, customer_cone_prefixes4, customer_cone_prefixes6The IPv4 addresses the networks in its cone originate, and the prefixes they announce
rankIts place among the AS numbers in global routing by the size of its cone, 1 the largest
transit_degreeHow many distinct networks it's seen carrying routes between
tier11 for the transit-free networks at the top, which get transit from no one and peer with each other
siblings, num_siblingsThe other AS numbers registered to the same organization, routed or not, and how many

A relationship is how two networks route each other's traffic, which isn't always what either one pays the other.

Five AS numbers from the October 13 build:

12322Free SAS4902428031

Turk Telekom's upstreams is 1299|2914|3257|3320|3356, all five of them Tier 1 networks, and Virgin Media's siblings is 5462|13076|42987|43629|50534|62016.

What's in it

The October 13 build holds 123,192 AS numbers, the same rows as ASN. 80,395 of them are in global routing and ranked; the rest keep their rows, with no rank and zeros. Between the routed ones, it records 167,459 transit relationships and 478,012 peerings, from public BGP routing data.

15 networks are Tier 1. 12,183 provide transit to at least one other network, and 32,152 get transit from a single upstream. 27,280 AS numbers have a sibling, in 7,967 organizations that hold two or more.

What the columns are for

customer_cone_ips sizes a network by the address space it carries, not the addresses it originates: Lumen's AS3356 originates 27,414,024 IPv4 addresses itself; the networks in its cone originate 1,611,203,529.

upstreams says which networks an AS depends on for transit, and a num_upstreams of 1 says it depends on one. A transit provider reads it the other way round: the networks that get transit from its competitors.

siblings puts an organization's AS numbers together. Comcast's AS7922 lists 55, its regional networks among them, so traffic from any of them reads as Comcast's.

Getting access

ASN Extended ships as CSV, rebuilt daily, and its docs page has the schema. Sign up to evaluate it from its sample. A license is per database and never metered: see licensing, or talk to us about what you need. With a license, it's in BigQuery too.

Put this data to work.

Everything these posts report on comes from the databases we license, and you can test them first.

00 · Evaluate

Test the real build first.

An evaluation license puts a full current build in your hands, with no sampling, so you can measure it against your own traffic before anyone talks about terms.

01 · License

Then license what you use.

Standard, for detection and decisions inside your own product and operations.
Redistribution, when the data ships onward inside what you sell, priced by scope rather than by seat.
Annual terms, a named contact, and monthly, quarterly or yearly payment.
