# IP Timezone, now free: the IANA timezone of every IP range

IP Timezone, every IPv4 and IPv6 range with its IANA timezone and its country, is free now with any account under CC BY-SA 4.0.

[IP Timezone](https://internetdata.io/databases/ip-timezone) is now one of our Open databases: free to download with any account under [CC BY-SA 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/). It's every IPv4 and IPv6 range with its IANA timezone and its country, the zone of the city [IP Geolocation](https://internetdata.io/databases/ip-geolocation) places it in, with neighbors in the same zone merged into one row.

## One zone per range

| Range | Timezone | Country |
|---|---|---|
| `1.0.16.0/20` | `Asia/Tokyo` | JP |
| `5.196.42.160/27` | `Europe/Warsaw` | PL |
| `17.30.12.0/23` | `Europe/Berlin` | DE |
| `23.192.190.0/24` | `America/Sao_Paulo` | BR |
| `2a02:26f7:f7c0:e121::/64` | `America/Bogota` | CO |

A zone is its IANA name, so the offset on any date, summer time included, comes from the tz database your language already ships.

## What's in it

The October 16 build holds 2,454,960 ranges, 1,740,662 IPv4 and 714,298 IPv6, in 400 IANA timezones and 248 countries and territories. They cover 3,702,256,205 IPv4 addresses, all of IP Geolocation's but 1,458 in Bouvet Island and Heard Island. Ranges in the United States fall in 28 zones, in Russia 23, in Canada 20 and in Brazil 15.

| Timezone | IPv4 addresses |
|---|---|
| `America/New_York` | 830,872,147 |
| `Asia/Shanghai` | 344,302,705 |
| `America/Chicago` | 291,052,831 |
| `America/Los_Angeles` | 267,517,486 |
| `Asia/Tokyo` | 199,362,893 |
| `Europe/Berlin` | 141,411,131 |
| `Asia/Seoul` | 116,647,199 |
| `Europe/London` | 106,650,819 |

[IP Country](https://internetdata.io/databases/ip-country), free too, carries the same zone beside the range's continent and country and the country's currency and flag.

## Getting access

[Sign up](https://app.internetdata.io/auth/signup), and IP Timezone is in the console with a download button, already licensed to your organization: nothing to request. With an API key, the [CLI](https://docs.internetdata.io/integrations/cli) and the client libraries download it as they do any database:

```sh
internetdata db download ip_timezone_v1
```

In BigQuery, subscribe to the free `InternetData Open` listing, or `InternetData Open EU`, and look addresses up inline ([BigQuery](https://docs.internetdata.io/integrations/bigquery) has the details):

```sql
SELECT
    l.ip,
    l.created_at,
    internetdata_open.ip_timezone_v1(l.ip).timezone AS timezone
FROM mydataset.logins AS l
```

CC BY-SA 4.0 asks two things: credit InternetData with a link to [internetdata.io](https://internetdata.io), and share what you build from the data under the same license. Building it into something you sell without sharing alike takes a [redistribution license](https://internetdata.io/pricing). Its [docs page](https://docs.internetdata.io/database/ip-timezone) has the schema.
